What’s the big deal about Amazon Prime Day?
Five years ago marked the first Amazon Prime Day.
Like standing in line in the cold on a Black Friday morning only to find all the discounted TVs are gone, the first Amazon Prime event was largely a bust. Deals were primarily on Amazon items and the few good prices on other items sold out quickly.
Amazon Prime 2016 was different, with deals on electronics and toys all day long, and Amazon has continued to top the sales each and every year.
Now It’s a 5 Star Event
What will be on sale during Amazon Prime Day 2020? We don’t know and the answers are hotly debated as time leads up to the sale. Amazon keeps the sale items a highly guarded secret, but usually the most anticipated holiday gift items are given key focus.
Items I’m watching for during Amazon Prime Day 2020
- Instant Pot and accessories
- Air Fryers and accessories
- Craft supplies
- Running and workout shoes
- FitBit and other fitness trackers
- Toys, puzzles, and games for early Christmas shopping
The sales have already begun, with daily deals starting now and leading up to the big day. Check out the current deals here, which are constantly changing.

Insider Tips
You must be an Amazon Prime member to participate. A prime membership is $119 per year, which includes free two-day shipping on prime items (most items are included).
Prime shipping has made the membership worth it for our family since we did all our Christmas shopping on Amazon this year and avoided stores all together.
Amazon offers a free 30-day Prime trial, so you can participate in the sale and then cancel after the 30 days. It’s worth checking out if you are considering a membership, since membership also includes streaming Amazon Prime video (a limited but worthwhile selection), Prime photo online storage, Kindle Owners’ Lending Library of books, and 20% off diapers and 15% off baby registry items.
Amazon Family offers the full range of Prime benefits and is especially worth checking into if you have a little one in diapers.
College students can receive a free six month trial of amazon prime for free, and then a membership for a lower annual price, with referral bonuses too!
